What Am I Going To Eat Today?

"What am I going to eat?" How many times have you asked yourself that question? If you're like me, then you ask yourself that question before every meal. But why do you ask yourself that question?

If you're like me, then it's because you have so many good choices of fresh foods at home waiting for you in your fridge or freezer, that it hard to choose. Or, like me, you're so fast and efficient at preparing fresh, nutritious foods that you know within, sometimes as little as, 10 minutes for a salad (dressing and all), or 20-30 minutes in a pressure cooker you can have everything your body needs to stay and feel healthy....vegetables, protein, grains, etc. It's because you already know you have the skill and knowledge to cook and prepare anything you could want, and need, with the best quality ingredients you can afford....and that comes from practice.

Or....

Is it that you truly don't know because you have nothing at home waiting for you, either prepared, or within a short time, easy to prepare? Is it because, like most of the people in this country you haven't decided which fast food resturant it's going to be for lunch today? Is it because you don't know if you have the right ingredients to try a new recipe? Is it because making sure you have good, nutritious, fresh, foods isn't anywhere near the top of your priority list, if not, why not?

What am I going to eat today? I know what I'm going to eat, do you?

Practice and routine makes perfect. Everywhere you go it seems some company has an easy excuse for people to not cook or eat fresh live food. Making it seem OK to not make the time to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Sigh...
A bit of Planning and a priority shift can sure go a long way! What happened to the days of family dinners?? Leftovers?? Real food in kids lunches? I could blather on and on... lol
It really only takes a few minutes to grill a piece of meat and some veggies. Careful Planning is what it is all about whether it's about food, work outs, work or life. You will always find success when you think ahead and plan...

PS... I too am going to try the pressure cooker. My mom has one kicking around from her canning days way back in the 70's.

Sheryl,

So much socializing, if not all socializing, is about eating food a person might not normally eat, or in much larger amounts and portions, like at parties and get togethers!

It's rare that I go out and eat, in fact the last time my mother was here visiting I told her straight up...."You can come here and hang out with me in my kitchen, but I don't go out and eat!"

And....modern pressure cookers have safety release valves, I'm not familiar with earlier models, if you can find intructions, maybe online, read them!

Well, I will be getting a pressure cooker, you have inspired me. I did make collard greens, kale and black eye peas last night. When I warmed them up at work today, one of the girls said Wow that smells like real food. Too funny, I think some of the people under 22 years old have forgotten what real food looks and smells like. It was rainey and cold in Philadelphia today and I was so happy to have them. I always plan ahead it's the only way I stay on track.

What a great post. The first time I lost all the weight I needed to I cooked a lot and pre-packaged it in the frig. I always had a couple of choices so I would force myself to drive home and eat whatever appealed to be from my prepared food selection(knowing it would take the same amount of time as sitting in the the drive-thru). Same for lunches. I did that this week with a hearty stew, rice, veggies and chicken breasts. Had excellent lunches all week and all it took was little preparation. Lesson re-learned.

Going to make zucchini muffins this weekend and prepare food to take on a trip with me. Need to buy some new storage containers. Any recommendations?

pat,

Soon, planning ahead will be a habit....something that's just automatic.

And as far as making your lunch. I think making your own lunches can be the first step in bodyweight maintainence. In fact I'd bet that most people would lose a couple of pounds from just doing that!

Look around at work during lunch....who are the ones bringing their own lunches? The skinny ones, lol!

fafa,

My recommendation would be to STAY AWAY FROM THE ZUCCINI MUFFINS!!!!!LOL, not!

No joke! just because there's zuccini in them doesn't make it safe to have a whole stinkin' batch around!

I can see I'm going to have to email you!!!

I really needed to spend a few days overseas to understand why food choices are such an issue over there... Not that we wouldn't have the fast food tendency here in Europe, too, but it's far less predominant. Yet...

gabi,

I just used fast food as an example, it all convenience foods, mostly processed foods. The other problem is the sweets. I don't think most people have a clue to the amount of sugar they eat.
