KB Getaway

Wow! Mark and I were so lucky this weekend to visit some KB friends who live in an the incredible town of Healdburg, CA. I had never been to Healdsburg before, its in the Napa Valley, and the weather was per-fect! Ross and Gayle were such gracious hosts and I learned so much about that area, as well as being treated to some of the 'good life'.
I have lots more to share about our overnight trip, but for now I wanted to get up a few pictures of Gayle and I training KB's on her deck overlooking the Russian River! Gayle owns Russian River Kettlebells, and is a RKC. She was certified the same weekend I was , April 06, and will be attending Level 2 this June.
There is only one thing better than going away to an awesome place, with great weather, great food (and wine), and great friends., (and an internet connection for Mark, lol!)....add in KB's and it's a perfect getaway!

Tracy,

What an incredible view! I wouldn't mind doing a KB workout there or anything for that matter!

I am game for a hiking/walking club. That would be a great way for fellowship and fitness.

Tamikka,

Hopefully it won't be my last, and only workout there!

Hey, can you meet me and a friend Saturday morning for a walk at Ranch San Antonio Park, in Los Altos? 8am-10am

Sheryl,
I live in Southern California and it's been so freakin' hot, setting all-time highs. I've heard people in other parts of the country were having blizzards.

Tracy, I had a question about doing lots of snatches with th 16kg. I'm not up to what you do but am trying to increase and am doing lots(400) with the 12kg and adding in 100 or so with the 16kg and its ripping up my hands and preventing me from increasing like I'd like to. I use those bands(from the socks) when I use the 12Kg but it affects my grip on the 16kg so I go without them and then I get blisters. You mentioned the competition KB when doing high reps with the 16. Is the grip similar to the 12kg that maybe I could use those guards and not rip up my hands? Peggy

Hi Peggy,
I use weight lifting gloves myself. I find they are light and protect me from blisters. As for the grip it took some getting used to but not long. They sure made bottoms up cleans VERY interesting the first few times. But meh, what's a little challenge? lol. I am not able snatch the 16kg yet though. Only the 12kg.
Hope this helps. ;-]

PS...I was having a hard time finding just the right socks so I tried the gloves and love them.

Sheryl,

It's been unseasonally cold here, we just lucked out and got crazy good weather over this last weekend. I'm so stinkin' tired of our freezing cold garage gym!

Fawn, I can't wait for your next visit, we'll go, and you'll love it!

PS, I'm thinking about learning to ride a motorcycle! What do you think?

Peggy,

My recent experience is that tearing up my hands, whether with the 16kg, or the 12kg is related to not only volume, but speed. Slow down, find a better grip, use your legs on the decent as "shock absorbers" instead of letting the weight pull you down, would be some suggestions. But as far as the sock sleeves or any other type of glove, you have to experiment and find what works for you.

The handle on the competition bell is the same approx size as the 12kg, but the size of the bell is cumbersome, because I'm not used to it. Trade-offs!
