60 Bleepin' Minutes!

That's 'kind of' what I said, as I walked in the back door after my workout today. Today is the closest I've ever come to skipping my workout, but I forced myself in the gym. I reminded myself that there will be plenty of times I'll have to skip routine workouts because of other obligations, so when there's no legitimate reason then it's just too bad for me! No option, especially when laziness, procrastination, or "I just don't feel good" is the only excuse.

I didn't get to yoga until the 9:15 class this morning and even though I had some oats early I was hungry so I went home and ate, thinking I would just workout with Mark at 1:oopm. Well, as I finished off my 3rd bowl of Cheerios (actually "Trader O's"), that was after a salad and chicken, I took a nap for an hour (while Mark did his workout), got up and cleaned the house, all the while not listening to every excuse I tried to come up with to talk myself out of my own workout.

I didn't want to train, but it was 4:00pm and I had to practice some of what I preach. Show up and do the reps. "Do the reps, do the reps, do the reps.", is what I kept repeating to myself. I can't believe I squeaked out 60 bleepin' minutes.

Warm up

40 2 hand swings w/12kg, 1 min work, 1 min rest x 5 sets = 10 min.

Work sets

12 2 hand swings w/16kg, 15 sec rest, 8 snatch Rw/12kg, 15 sec rest,
12 2 hand swings w/16kg, 15 sec rest, 8 snatch L w/12kg, 15 sec rest,
12 2 hand swings w/16kg, 15 sec rest, 6 snatch R w/16kg, 15 sec rest,
12 2 hand swings w/16kg, 15 sec rest, 6 snatch L, w/16kg, 15 sec rest

All work sets were 15 sec also. So these were max V02 based timed sets. I alternated these 4 combinations 10 x = 40 min.

40 2 hand swings w/16kg, 1 min work, 1 min rest x 5 sets = 10 min.

Total time 60 min.
160 snatches w/12kg = 160 points
120 snatches w/16kg = 240 points
880 swings

I wasn't planning on any kind of video so there is no talking....I barely had the drive or energy to do the stinkin' workout, lol! It's a portion of the workout alternating 2 hand swings with 16kg snatches.

Tracy,

You're my hero!

I've been struggling myself the last few days with my workouts... we did a 5 mile walk today and all caught up in work so I missed my yoga that I've come to really, really love!!

Good for you for getting your business done! You ROCK!

xoxo

Tracy,
a great post and exactly what I needed!

"Show up and do the reps" - this is what I need to keep telling myself these days, too... must be in the air, lol.
I hate procrastinating and I hate myself for doing exactly that, and I especially hate 'hating this and that', ehh :)
So I guess I better shut up, show up and do the reps... Now!

Tracy,

Reading you lately I have the strong, deep intuition that you are struggling with adrenal tiredness (notice I'm not writing fatigue or exhaustion). Maybe you are blaming your mind for what is the natural consequence of three wonderful, yet draining years of emotional skin shedding, fat armor-shedding, life changing adventure.
You've been brave, commited, relentless, you've released half of you, you've gone through surgery (anaesthesia gets stored in fat and flows again into the body when you lose it, even in small quantities).
In a few words, you've been fighting a war and it's perfectly, biologically, physiologically NORMAL to be compelled to restore energy levels. Body only knows two ways: eating and resting.
Why not to put your fears aside, schedule wonderful well earned naps, commit to healthy eating (no-feasts), simple intuitive stretching and walks just to have an intimate no-goal driven chat with your body.
I don't know anyone who deserves a spa more than you.
And switch vitamins, if you are taking a complex, we get used to a brand and they pass through us without a trace.
Mild dehydration may be causing hunger and flat mood, too.
I manage my adrenal exhaustion crises(mine is chronic, diagnosed hypoadrenia) by sleeping a lot, going to bed before 11 pm give liver meridian a real chance to repair itself.
70% of the energy we burn by sleeping is fat. 70 % of our detox is through non-exercise related calm and deep breathing and we can't restore ourselves if parasympathetic nervous system is not on.

With much love,
Paz

So I'm sitting here in my nightgown before 8am thinking to myself, 'how nice to not have to go to work until 2... mmm... this coffee tastes so yummy... maybe I will just relax and skip the gym this morning." Then I click on your blog, LOL
My gawd woman, you keep us in line even when you don't realize you are doing it. ...I'm off to get dressed for the gym, thanks for the motivation :D

Jen,

Sometimes we have to miss yoga!

My workout is hard compared to yoga and sometimes I start out with what's easy hoping I will just keep the momentum going....lesson? Don't start eating inbetween workouts, LOL!

Fawn,

Not bad for 137lbs., huh? I'm definitely more muscular, now I'm getting the diet in order.

Jennifer,

Human? The 3 bowls of cereal, or almost skipping the workout? LOL

Tamikka,

Speaking of workouts.....how's the KB's coming along? You know you have to swing, as well as cook when you come over, right?

We have to set a date! Seriously

Gabi,

Procrastination is the devil! Most of the time I get home from yoga class, all the while driving home saying to myself, "Don't think about it, just do it".

Which means to just get out of my car and without even going into the house first, walk into the gym and start the workout....which is exactly what I'll be doing this morning. Heavy 2 hand swing ladders 15 sec intervals! No thoughts about it, just action!

Paz,

As soon as I started reading your comment I felt much calmer, thank you. I DO need to "lay off" for a while. I get caught up in trying to "swing away" the stress of what I see as extra fat, which is still probably some edema from surgery, and then that creates more stress and then I binge eat, and then I "swing", and then I go to yoga everyday for the same reasons, and then I swing with clients multiple times a week in addition to my own workouts, and then.......I keep going and going.....

I did finally realize all of the "junk miles" as Mark says, are not doing me any good, in fact just the opposite. I've already scaled back my own KB workouts to not more than every other day, instead of 4 days a week.

I'm learning...isn't it great?

Your comments are so thought provoking, I haven't had the time or energy to digest all of what you have offered, but I appreciate it greatly and I am spending some time this morning reflecting. Thank you again.

Liz,

Show up and do the work, nothing is more important than moving your body and staying connected to it. It's that "disconnect" tha gets us in trouble.

Too bad you can't crochet on the treadmill, lol!

Bambi,

This last month of May has been a difficult month to blog. Lot's of stuff going on, lots of stuff to write about, no time to do it!

Thank you for the encouragement, it always helps and motivates me.

Sheryl,

The workouts we don't want to do are the ones we need most!

Tracy,

That is such a key..."don't start eating inbetween workouts!"

Progress not perfection... right?!
